Time Machine is Apple’s backup system for Macs. A Time Capsule is a backup system connected to the network. Each Mac is configured to store backups to at least one Time Capsule and preferably two.
Checking the Time Machine status
You can quickly check that the Time Machine backups are working properly:
1. Click the icon in the menubar for Time Machine. The icon is in the top right section of the menubar and looks like a clock with an arrow going around it:
2. Note the first and second menu items. They show the device where the backups are stored and the time of the last backup.
3. To see detailed information about the backups, choose Open Time Machine Preferences… from the Time Machine menu. The Time Machine System Preferences are displayed:
